WOODWARD — The Woodward-Granger girls basketball team has not lacked for hustle or effort, head coach Gary Dresback has said on several occasions, it is just that the Hawks struggle to put the ball in the basket.

That, of course, is the most critical of elements, and a telling reason for a 2-7 overall record and 0-6 mark in WCAC play.

W-G is 91st of 96 Class 2A teams in overall field goal percentage, shooting just 28.4 percent from the floor. They have a class-low six made 3-pointers on 51 attempts (11.8 percent), allowing opponents to pack in the defense and create clogged shooting lanes.

The Hawks are yielding 48 points per game while scoring 35.4 ppg and are an even 50 percent from the free throw line.

Senior Alyssa Bice leads the team with 9.9 ppg, with Kayley Dresback adding seven points per outing. Katelyn Scharlau averages 5.6 ppg, Mae Anderson 4.8 ppg and Natalie Helbling 4.1 ppg.

Bice has 36 rebounds and 23 steals, with Dresback providing 21 steals and 17 assists, Helbling 15 steals and 12 assists, while Scharlau has pulled down 59 rebounds and Anderson 48.

W-G is at Earlham Tuesday and Greene County for a girls-only junior varsity/varsity set Thursday before hosting AC/GC Friday.
