The Perry Police Department has reminded city residents that while fireworks will be legally sold in Iowa from Dec. 10 to Jan. 3, their use in Perry is prohibited by city ordinance during the Christmas holiday season.

Fireworks may only be legally used within the city of Perry on the Fourth of July.

“Fireworks are only allowed on the Fourth of July from 4-11 p.m.,” a Perry Police Department statement said. “Party poppers and sparklers still may be used as always.”

Violators of the city fireworks ordinance face a fine of $500.

The Iowa Legislature legalized the sale of fireworks in the state beginning June 1, 2017. Iowa was the 44th U.S. state to permit the legal sale of retail consumer fireworks.
