One of the Perry Lions Club’s signature programs, Iowa KidSight, attained a milestone Thursday with its 750,000th vision screening.
The Iowa KidSight program enhances early detection and treatment of vision impairments in young children across the state and since its founding in 2000 has provided vision screenings — for children aged 6 months to kindergarten — at no cost across all 99 counties of Iowa.
The 750,000th vision screening milestone was marked May 2 at Sacred Heart Preschool in Monticello, Iowa, where Monticello Lions Club members Deb Kuhn and John Sauser conducted the notable screening on 3-year-old Ryleigh Freye.
Along with its early vision screenings, Iowa KidSight’s goals include public education about the risks associated with undetected vision problems. Through the dedication of volunteers, such as the Perry Lions Club, which has participated in the program since it began, and with the expertise of healthcare professionals, Iowa KidSight continues to make significant strides in achieving these goals.
Iowa KidSight is a collaborative initiative between the Lions Clubs of Iowa and the
