Apply now for the Parent in Heaven (PH) Balance Scholarship, intended for a high school senior who, at any time in his or her life, has lost a parent or legal guardian and forever feels that void.

Educators and people who have worked in some capacity with children in the schools know the importance of family and parents. When the unspeakable happens, students need to know that others understand and wish to bring some balance into their lives in the form of a scholarship.

The $1,000 PH Balance scholarship will be presented at the Iowa Retired School Personnel Association (IRSPA) Annual Meeting and Convention during the first week of October. The student will be selected from a school within IRSPA District 4, which includes Harrison, Shelby, Audubon, Guthrie, Dallas, Pottawattamie, Cass, Adair, Madison, Mills, Montgomery, Adams, Union, Clarke, Fremont, Page, Taylor, Ringgold and Decatur counties.

Qualifying students living or going to high school in those counties may apply for the scholarship. The scholarship will move to a different IRSPA district each year until voluntary funding will allow the scholarship to expand to one per district per year.

Qualifying students may plan on attending either a four-year college, a community college or a technical school, with plans to earn a degree or diploma for their desired field of study.

The scholarship is payable to the school after the successful completion of the first semester and continued enrollment for the second semester. Applications, including instructions, may be obtained here or by contacting an IRSPA District Coordinator and President/Scholarship Chair Jean Hoffman at 42teacher@gmail.com or by going to irspa.org and clicking on the “scholarship” tab.
