
A 2-0 win over Ogden in the second of their five matches Thursday gave the Perry volleyball team their first taste of victory this season.
The Jayettes were hosting their own six-team invitational, and had opened with a 21-19, 21-11 loss to Carlisle before stopping the Bulldogs on scores of 21-15 and 24-22.
Perry was upended in three sets by Earlham, falling 17-21, 21-16 and 15-11 while suffering losses to Panorama (21-12, 21-16) and Coon Rapids-Bayard (21-19, 21-16) to finish 1-4 in the event. Ogden was also 1-4, with Carlisle finishing 5-0 to win the invite. CR-B was second at 3-2 and Earlham third at 3-2 (CR-B winning the head-to-head match) while Panorama was 2-3 overall.
Kacy Nevitt was strong at the net for Perry throughout the invite, finishing with 23 kills and 5.5 blocks. Gabby West had eight kills and a block, Makenzie Ayers six kills and Jasmine Shriver four, with Ainsley Marburger adding three kills and Quinn Whiton two. Whiton also had a block and Marburger an assisted block.
Whiton distributed 36 assists, Magley Orellana two and Stephanie Garcia one.[wpedon id=”85410″ align=”left”]
Shriver’s 33 digs were a team high, with Orellana making 30 digs and Ayers 28. Whiton tallied 22 digs and West 13, with Garcia and Marburger having nine apiece, Nevitt four and Peyton Tunink and Jayna Kenney one each.
Perry served much better than in recent outings, connecting on 160-of-177 (91 percent) while making 13 aces. Ayers was 38-of-39 with one ace, Marburger 32-35-3 and Whiton 29-29-1. Shriver was 26-26-2 behind the line, Orellana 16-18-4, Nevitt 12-18-2 and Tunink 7-of-11.
Perry (1-19) will compete just twice in the next two weeks. They will host Ballard Tuesday before visiting Bondurant-Farrar September 18.
