Jayette netters play in weekend tournament

Perry faced four foes Saturday at the AC/GC Tournament.

GUTHRIE CENTER — The Perry volleyball team played four matches at the AC/GC Tourney Saturday, falling short of victory in each of the bouts.

The host Chargers posted a 21-6, 21-16 win the first Jayette match. A 21-11, 21-13 loss to Colfax-Mingo followed, with West Central Valley claiming a 21-17, 16-21, 15-3 win the third Perry match. Exira/EH-K was a 21-14, 13-21, 17-15 victor in the final match for Perry, who fell to 1-12 overall.

Peyton Tunink led Perry with 20 total kills, with Ashley Cerna adding 17 kills. Kathryn West tallied 12 kills and Callie Steva five, with Kimberly Castillo and Maci Tunink having three kills apiece and Taylor Atwell one.

Atwell distributed 54 assists, Peyton Tunink and Addison Huntington two apiece and Cerna one.

Peyton Tunink recorded 30 digs, Cerna 23 and Huntington 22 to fuel the Jayette defense. Atwell had 18 digs, Steva and Valeria Contreras seven each and West three.

Perry served 115-of-131 with 11 aces overall for an accuracy rating of 88 percent.

Peyton Tunink was 29-32-1 behind the line, with Steva 23-25-2, Atwell 17-19-3, Cerna 13-15-4, Huntington 15-18-1, and West 16-of-19.

Perry hosts Roland-Story for a HOIAC duel Tuesday before playing in the South Tama County tourney Saturday.
