
INDIANOLA — Saturday’s regional meet was the final action of the season for the Perry swim team, who set three season-best relay times and two new personal best efforts while finishing seventh in a nine-team field.
Dowling Catholic won the meet with 484 points, with West Des Moines Valley scoring 464 points. Indianola was a distant third with 294 points, with Lewis Central (281), Des Moines East (143), Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln (136), Perry (92), Oskaloosa (87) and Keokuk (79) completing the team rankings.
Perry earned trips to the medal stand after a fifth-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay and a sixth-place effort in the 200 medley relay. Anna Ridnour, Dannah Karolus and Haley and Sarah Vaughn swam the former in 1 minute, 55.69 seconds, while Ridnour, Breanna Penenger and the Vaughn sisters competed in the latter, finishing in 2:13.42. The 400 free relay team of Ridnour, Karolus, Penenger and Sarah Vaughn was eighth in 4:25.66.
Penenger has the highest individual finish of any Jayette after touching 12th in the 500 free in a personal-best time of 6:01.15. She was 14th in the 200 free in 2:15.96.
Haley Vaughn — the only senior on the team — placed 15th in both the 200 individual medley (2:30.82) and the 100 backstroke (1:09.83). Sarah Vaughn was 19th in the latter in 1:14.62.
Karolus was 17th in the 50 free (29.26) and the 100 free (1:05.49), with Ridnour touching 13th in the 100 breaststroke (1:27.25). Perry did not compete in the 100 butterfly.
