ATLANTIC — Perry responded to a 2-1 halftime deficit with three consecutive goals after the break to post a 4-3 win over Atlantic in girls non-conference soccer Tuesday.[wpedon id=”82220″ align=”center”]
The win lifted Perry to 9-5 overall while Atlantic fell to 3-12.
Natalie Martinez put Perry on the board first with an unassisted goal in the 16th minute of play, but the hosts fought back to score in the 18th and 22nd minutes to enter the intermission with the lead.
Jaqueline Guardado scored off a Molly Lutmer assist to tie the contest in the 42nd minute. Martinez scored her 24th goal of the year in the 60th minute to give Perry a 3-2 lead, with Lutmer adding what became a critical insurance goal with an unassisted score in the 67th minute.
Lutmer’s goal proved key, as a yellow card assessed to Perry gave Atlantic a penalty kick with four minutes remaining. The hosts converted to close to within 4-3, but could not crack the Perry defense over the final minutes and suffered the loss.
Selena Garcia had three saves in the first half and one in the second, with Odaly Perla entering the contest and making three saves in the second half.
Perla needed to make only two saves in the junior varsity game, which Perry won, 1-0.
Denise Mejia scored for the Jayettes with 4 minutes, 30 seconds left in regulation to help create the victory.
Perry will host Collins-Maxwell (9-3) at Dewey Field Thursday at 6 p.m. in a Class 2A Region 3 First Round match. The winner will play host and eighth-ranked ADM (14-2) Tuesday in the semifinals.
