
Perry hosted PCM for a conference basketball twin bill Friday, with the Jayettes winning the girls game, 40-33, while the Bluejays were not as fortunate, falling 80-42.
The Jayettes (6-10, 3-8) had fallen to the host Mustangs (6-13, 5-6), 40-34, Dec. 14, but turned the tables Friday with a win by almost the exact same score.
The Bluejays (2-14, 0-11) had won two consecutive game but were handed their second consecutive loss Friday when the Mustangs (10-7, 7-3) seized control in the second quarter and never looked back. PCM had been a 70-37 winner in Monroe earlier this season.
The opener was knotted at 14-all at the intermission, but Perry managed to open a slight lead, 27-24, when the third period ended. The Jayettes then put the game away with a 13-9 fourth quarter that included strong free throw shooting.
Perry finished 12-of-13 at the charity stripe, with PCM sinking just 4-of-10.
Lydia Olejniczak had 21 points and Jayna Kenney 11, with the former 8-of-8 at the line and the latter 4-of-5. Perry received four points apiece from Kathryn West and Callie Steva.
Perry had trouble containing PCM guard Carson Vandelune and 6-6 post Durant Van Dyke. Vandelune led all scorers with 31 points, with Van Dyke adding 28.
The Mustangs led, 25-19, after a speedy first eight minutes, but surged out to a 54-29 lead at the break. By the end of the third quarter the margin stood at 73-33.
Zander Mahler splashed five 3-pointers to lead Perry with 17 points. Holden Smith and Owen Myers had eight points apiece, with Drake Levan adding four. Two points apiece from Geren Kenney and Kaelen Davis and a free throw from Matthew Booker capped the Jay scoring.
Perry is at Greene County Tuesday and visits Saydel Friday, with the Jayettes playing a girls-only, varsity-only game Feb. 5 at 1 p.m. against visiting Baxter.
