Perry's Jo Diw (1) and Maddie West (15) block an attack from Earlham's Kaylee Hohertz during the Jayette Invite Thursday.

Perry finished 2-2 overall in their own seven-team invitational Thursday to finish in fourth place. The Jayettes are now 3-15 overall this season.

Play began for the hosts with a 21-13, 21-10 win over Panorama. Jayette servers were dominant in the match, dishing up 14 aces for one-third of Perry’s points. Wins of 21-18 and 21-18 over CMB put the hosts in position to win their pool, with Earlham standing in the way.

The Cardinals won the first set, 21-18, but Perry played excellent defense and served well again in claiming a 21-9 second set win. Unfortunately for the hosts, they were unable to dig out of an early hole in the deciding third set, falling 15-10.

The loss sent Perry into the third place match against Carlisle, who posted a 25-19 set one win. The Wildcats had control of the second set, but a resolute Perry team clawed back to close to within a point before falling, 25-22.

DC-G defeated Earlham to win the championship, with CMB topping CR-B for fifth place.

Senior Grace Marburger played without restriction (she appeared in a limited role at ADM Tuesday) for the first time this season after returning from a hand injury. She had a combined 17 kills, 36 digs and five blocks, with Jo Diw tallying 20 kills, 24 digs and two blocks.

Adrian Thompson had eight kills, six digs and two blocks, Maddie West four kills, five digs and a block with Sid Vancil recording two kills, 17 digs and a block while Isabel Saemisch had four kills.

Vancil distributed 41 of Perry’s 48 assists, with Diw adding four assists, Thompson two and West one.

Thompson finished 32-of-37 with seven aces while serving, with Vancil 30-of-32 with five aces and West 24-28-6. Diw was 14-17-1 and Marburger 25-of-25. Libero player Syd Guerra was 21-23-3 behind the line while leading the team in digs with 45.

Perry will return to the court Tuesday when Ballard visits for a Raccoon River Conference dual.
