A Jefferson man arrested Wednesday for trespassing was tasered on Thursday when he tried to elude an officer of the Jefferson Police Department and a Greene County Deputy Sheriff.
Steven Logan Dzuris, 32, of 104 E. Monroe St., Jefferson, was charged early Thursday with eluding, assault on persons in certain occupations, interference with official acts, reckless driving and failure to stop at a stop sign.
On Wednesday, April 29 at 2:36 a.m., Dzuris was arrested on a charge of trespassing in the 1000 block of W. Lincoln Way in Jefferson.
On Thursday, April 30 at 1:38 a.m., Greene County Deputy Sheriff Brandon Turner and Jefferson Police Officer Jonathan Young were advised of a driving complaint in Jefferson.
According to court records, the law enforcement officers and observed as the driver of the vehicle “squealed its tires” and “failed to stop at the stop sign” at E. State Street and N. Wilson Avenue.
The deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop and activated the lights and siren in the patrol vehicle, but the Pontiac “continued for approximately three blocks” and stopped at N. Cedar and Lincoln Way streets.
According to court records, “The individual drove off again and stopped approximately 200 feet away. The driver was identified as Steven Dzuris.”
After stopping a second time, Dzuris exited the vehicle but “appeared agitated and was non-compliant.” Dzuris got back into the Pontiac and drove several more blocks before he again “exited his vehicle and continued to yell and be noncompliant.”
According to court records, when Dzuris allegedly refused to obey the deputy’s order “to get on the ground” but instead “attempted to get back into his vehicle,” the deputy deployed the taser.
Dzuris “continued to be non-compliant and became combative while being placed in the patrol vehicle,” according to court records. He allegedly “kicked” the Jefferson Police Department Officer “in the chest area” while being placed in the patrol vehicle.
Dzuris was transported to the Greene County Jail and “placed in the drunk tank,” according to court records, where he “continued to be noncompliant.”
Dzuris was held in the Greene County Jail prior to being released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing May 13 in Greene County District Court.
Dzuris has prior convictions for interference with official acts in 2011 and 2014 in Greene County District Court. He has prior convictions for domestic abuse assault in 2014, 2016 and 2017 in Greene County District Court. A charge of assault on peace officers and others was filed in 2011 but later dismissed in Greene County District Court.
