Jefferson man tasered Thursday tries to outrun cops again Sunday

A Jefferson man arrested Wednesday for trespassing and tasered on Thursday when he tried to elude an officer of the Jefferson Police Department and a Greene County Deputy Sheriff. was arrested again Sunday

Steven Logan Dzuris, 32, of 104 E. Monroe St., Jefferson, was charged with third-offense OWI, eluding, reckless driving, driving while barred and interference with official acts.

The Sunday incident began about 12:15 p.m., when a Greene County Deputy Sheriff attempted to initiate a traffic stop and Dzuris fled in his 2014 Pontiac Grand Am.

During a high-speed chase that sometimes exceeded 110 mph, Dzuris’ vehicle was spike stripped near Glidden by a Carroll County Deputy Sheriff and again near Carroll by an officer of the Carroll Police Department.

The Iowa State Patrol also joined the pursuit. During the incident, a Jefferson Police Department officer sustained lacerations to his arm due to broken glass.

Dzuris was eventually taken into custody east of Carroll on U.S. Highway 30 without further incident.

Dzuris was tasered in the Thursday incident, in which he was charged with eluding, assault on persons in certain occupations, interference with official acts, reckless driving and failure to stop at a stop sign.

After allegedly attempting to elude law enforcement, Dzuris was tasered after he refused to obey a deputy’s order “to get on the ground” but instead “attempted to get back into his vehicle.”

On Wednesday, April 29 at 2:36 a.m., Dzuris was arrested on a charge of trespassing in the 1000 block of W. Lincoln Way in Jefferson.

Dzuris was held in the Greene County Jail prior to being released Thursday on his own recognizance. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing May 13 in Greene County District Court.

Dzuris has prior convictions for interference with official acts in 2011 and 2014 in Greene County District Court. He has prior convictions for domestic abuse assault in 2014, 2016 and 2017 in Greene County District Court. A charge of assault on peace officers and others was filed in 2011 but later dismissed in Greene County District Court. He was convicted of OWI in 2010 and 2016.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
