April 26, 2019
- The Greene County Sheriff’s office requested an officer check on a reported careless driver on 220th Street, heading west into Jefferson. The officer did not locate the vehicle.
- A traffic stop at 220th Street and Flack Avenue resulted in Marc McCain of Newton being issued a citation for failure to provide proof of financial liability.
- A traffic stop at Vest and Elm streets resulted in Zachary Smith of Jefferson being issued a citation for excessive speed.
- Jessica Wolf reported a stray dog near N. Grimmell Road and W. Adams Street. The officer was unable to get near the animal before it would run away from him.
- Betty Johnson reported what she believed to be harassment from a known female in Jefferson. The officer spoke to the other person involved, who advised the contact would end.
- Mark Esterday captured a stray dog near State and Oak streets. The officer recognized the animal and returned it to the owner with a verbal warning for the animal at large.
- A traffic stop at Wilson and Harrison streets resulted in Patrick Kennedy of Jefferson being issued a citation for driving while suspended.
- A caller advised of hearing a domestic argument occurring between a couple at 305 E. Garfield St. Officers arrived and spoke with the couple, who both advised they were involved in an argument. Both advised nothing physical had occurred between them. They had resolved the issue and needed no assistance form officers.
April 27, 2019
- The Union Pacific Railroad advised of a vehicle parked too close to the tracks on N. Cedar Street. The officer made contact with the driver, who was there to pick up train staff. The officer advised the driver to back away from the tracks to a safe distance.
- An officer was requested at the parking lot at 106 W. Washington St. for a door ding. A 2001 Mercury Villager, owned by Krieger Land LLC and operated by Janet Meiners of Jefferson, struck a parked vehicle with the door. The other vehicle was a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado, owned by Michael Hirschberg of Churdan. The Krieger vehicle was not damaged. The Hirschberg vehicle had a reported $300 in damages.
- An officer responded to a Life Line Alarm sounding at 1000 W. Adams St., #30. The officer found people were moving out of the apartment and accidentally tripped the alarm.
- Gary Goodwin reported a speeding driver on 220th Street, westbound into Jefferson. The officer located the vehicle, which was not violating traffic laws at that time.
- Hermalinda Lazo reported damage to a coin-operated dryer at 1216 Westwood Drive. The officer responded and determined unknown subjects attempted to gain entry to the coin box, causing $300 in damages to the unit. The owner of the complex was contacted by the officer.
- An officer performed a traffic stop near Elm and 220th streets with a vehicle that had a tail light burned out. During the stop, the officer smelled marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. Executing a probable-cause search of the vehicle, the officer found suspected marijuana and smoking devices. Charges are pending the results of lab tests.
April 28, 2019
- An Iowa State Trooper advised of a vehicle entering Jefferson from the south on Iowa Highway 4 at a high rate of speed. The trooper had locked the vehicle on radar at 123 mph. The officers and the trooper were unable to locate the vehicle after the trooper turned around on it.
- An officer issued a parking violation notice at 501 W. State St. for vehicle parked facing wrong direction.
- An officer responded to a vibration alarm sounding on an ATM in the 200 block of W. State Street. The officer located a male sitting at the ATM in his vehicle. In speaking to the male, the officer learned the machine would not accept the male’s card, which upset him. He had stepped out of his vehicle and kicked the front of the ATM machine. The machine was not damaged. The officer contacted the bank, which declined to take any criminal actions in the matter.
- A traffic stop at Lincoln Way and Chestnut Street resulted in Kalyn Cooklin of Rippey being issued a citation for excessive speed.
- Randy Sutton reported damage to his wooden fence in the alley at 202 S. Oak St. Sutton believed a neighbor may have struck the fence while backing from their garage. An officer is investigating.
- James Lorezen reported a suspicious vehicle near Grimmell Road and Central Street. The officer located the vehicle parked near an appliance pile at the Greene County Secondary Roads Department. The driver said he had permission to remove parts from the appliances. The officer confirmed this with the Greene County Engineer.
- Connor Groves brought a stray dog to the Law Enforcement Center she located in the 400 block of S. Oak Street. The officer placed the animal in the Animal Holding Facility.
- Adam Coyne reported an empty vehicle parked in the street at Russell and Chestnut streets. The officer and a Greene County Deputy responded to the area and located the owner walking towards the vehicle with a gas can. The vehicle was removed after being fueled with the can.
