August 23, 2019

  • Cassie Fowler reported she was bitten by a stray cat at 307 Rushview Drive. The animal was euthanized and taken to the Iowa State Veterinary College for rabies testing. The animal tested negative for rabies.
  • Tom Danielson requested an officer send out abandoned-vehicle notices on two vehicles that were left at his shop at 216 E. State St. for several years.
  • Ruth Spaulding reported receiving the Social Security scam phone call. She did not give the caller any information.
  • A traffic stop at Lincoln Way and Vine Street resulted in Monica Smith of Jefferson being issued a citation for excessive speed.
  • Autumn Dolph spoke to an officer concerning a civil landlord/tenant issue occurring at 304 1/2 S. Wilson Ave.
  • Officers were requested to perform a welfare check on a person in the 700 block of S. Oak Street after the neighbors received no response at the door. Officers learned the person was out of town.
  • Tosha Hickman requested an officer at 107 E. Vest St. for a civil issue concerning mail.
  • A caller reported an altercation between a male and female at 619 S. Olive St. The officers spoke to both parties and learned a verbal argument occurred but did not become physical. The parties separated before the arrival of officers.
  • A caller advised of a family with young children at Washington Park. The caller said she overheard one parent threaten to “beat the child.” An officer made contact with a family in the park and spoke to them about the complaint. The children were fine, and assistance was not needed.
  • An officer removed a bat from the residence at 406 E. State St.
  • An officer removed a bat from the residence at 300 S. Grimmell Road.
  • Melinda Millard reported a male knocked on her door at 105 N. Walnut St. After she told the male to leave, he did so.
  • An officer located an open door at 600 E. Lincoln Way. The officer secured the building.

August 24, 2019

  • A traffic stop at Elm and 220th streets resulted in Shelli Wilson of Glenwood being issued a citation for excessive speed.
  • An officer removed a bat from the residence at 102 E. Clark St.
  • Vincent Ratliff reported a missing dog from 102 W. Vest St. The animal turned up later.
  • The Greene County Middle School reported a student who was caught with a vaping device. A 13-year-old male from Jefferson was issued a citation for minor using tobacco/vaping product.
  • The Greene County High School reported removing a vaping device from a student at 101 Ram Drive. The student will face consequences from the school but is 18 years old and will not face a citation as he is of legal age to possess the device.
  • Doug Eischeid reported he allowed a cross-country bicyclist to stay on his property in a tent at 2009 N. Mulberry St. The tent was still there, but the subject has been gone now for several days.
  • An officer performed a funeral escort.
  • Sarah Kilbourn reported a stray dog in her yard at 400 W. Russell St. An officer placed the animal in the Jefferson Animal Holding Facility.
  • Charlie Paniagua spoke to an officer about the process of a committal and no-contact order.
  • Charlie Paniagua requested officers at 402 N. Chestnut St. for an argument between family members. Officers arrived, defused the issue and separated the parties.
  • Terry Hoefle reported a careless driver on 235th Street, traveling toward Jefferson. Officers did not locate the reported vehicle.
  • An officer spoke to someone about a van parked in the street for a long period in the 500 block of W. State Street. The person said the vehicle belonged to friend and had broken down. The person removed the vehicle from the street.
  • A caller reported an open window at a business in the 100 block of E. Harrison Street. Officers secured the business.
  • Sharon Johnson requested officers at 205 W. Vest St. for her 15-year-old grandson who was out of control and flashing a knife at her. Officers arrived and defused the issue. No knife was located.
  • A retail store reported a vehicle left in the parking lot at 300 N. Elm St. An officer learned the vehicle’s owner parked there and went to the races in Boone with a friend. The vehicle owner said he would remove the vehicle when her returned to Jefferson. The business was given this information.
  • An officer assisted a motorist with mechanical issues at Elm and 220th streets. The vehicle was pushed off of the roadway.
  • An officer assisted the Greene County Ambulance with a medical call on Iowa Highway 4 just north of U.S. Highway 30.
  • A traffic stop at Lincoln Way and Elm Street resulted in Michelle Christian of Rippey being issued a citation for failure to obey a stop sign.

August 25, 2019

  • An officer issued a parking-violation notice in the 600 block of S. Olive Street for a vehicle parked facing the wrong direction.
  • Samantha Ripperger reported her husband and step-son went to the movies in Carroll on the previous evening and were to return home around midnight but had not arrived. Neither party was answering his cell phone. An officer gathered clothing and vehicle information and requested assistance from Carroll Police Department officers in locating the two. The Carroll Police Department located the pair a short time later and advised they were fine. They contacted Ripperger and told her they were okay.
  • Amanda Brown spoke to an officer about an unwanted male coming and going from her residence at 306 W. Reed St. Brown said she did not want the male to return to the residence. An officer spoke to the male and forwarded Brown’s wishes to him.
  • Julie Muzney reported witnessing a male use a Slim Jim to gain access to a parked vehicle at 106 W. Washington St. The vehicle was not in the lot when officers arrived.
  • An officer removed tree branches from the roadway in the 700 block of S. Elm Street.
  • Officers assisted the Greene County Ambulance with a medical call in the 1000 block of W. Adams Street.
  • Marty Carlson spoke to officers concerning a civil property dispute with a family member.
  • Dave Sayre reported a vehicle had not stopped at the posted stop sign at Russell and Olive streets. Sayre said the female driver was parked nearby. An officer spoke to the female and warned the driver about the incident.
  • Tammy Wistenberg reported the laundry machine took her money at 301 W. Reed St. She was advised to contact the business owner.
  • A retail store requested an officer at 606 U.S. Highway 30 East for a male begging customers for money. The male had departed the business before the officer arrived.
  • A traffic stop in the 200 block of W. Head Street resulted in Lathan Davis of Churdan being issued a citation for driving while suspended.
  • A traffic stop was performed on a speeding vehicle at 220th and Elm streets. An officer’s radar locked the vehicle at 69 mph in the 55 mph zone. During the stop, the officer noticed the smell of marijuana coming from inside of the vehicle. During a probable-cause search of the vehicle, the officer located a vaping device and a bottle of green liquid. The liquid tested positive for marijuana with a NIKS Field Testing Kit. Clarence Steve Richardson of North Carolina was issued a citation for operation without registration and excessive Speed. He was given a verbal warning for no proof of insurance. Charges are pending lab results on the seized liquid.
  • A caller advised of a vehicle on S. Maple Street that was parked too close to the intersection with Brackett Street. An officer located the owner of the vehicle, who moved it from the intersection.
  • Keri Jensen requested assistance in the 200 block of S. Walnut Street with a suicidal male. The male went willingly with the officer to emergency room to be checked by a doctor.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
