April 28, 2017

  • An officer investigated a two-vehicle property-damage accident at Maple and Washington streets. A 2003 Ford Ranger, owned and operated by Vern Foje of Jefferson, was northbound on N. Maple Street, and a 1991 Buick Lesabre, owned and operated by Kelsey McPherson of Jefferson, was eastbound on W. Washington Street. Neither driver saw the other at the intersection. McPherson collided into the driver’s side of Foje’s vehicle. Foje’s vehicle had a reported $2,500 in damages, and McPherson had a reported $1,000 in front-end damages. McPherson was issued a citation for failure to yield to vehicle on right.
  • Bill Cozad reported a careless driver traveling southbound into Jefferson on Iowa Highway 4. An officer responded but was unable to locate the vehicle.
  • A traffic stop was performed in the 600 block of E. Lincoln Way, resulting in Donna Carhill of Jefferson being issued a citation for excessive speed.
  • Officers assisted with a medical call in the 1000 block of W. Washington Street.
  • A traffic stop was performed in the 300 block of N. Maple Street, resulting in Trisha Johnston of Jefferson being issued a citation for failure to provide proof of financial liability.
  • Officers assisted the Greene County EMS with a medical call in the 400 block of N. Oak Street.

April 29, 2017

  • Michael Heard spoke with an officer about a civil issue occurring at 501 S. Chestnut St. Heard was advised to contact an attorney.
  • An officer removed a baby opossum from a window well at 804 W. Madison St.
  • Whitney Day reported three young children lying in the roadway in the 600 block of W. State Street. The officer made contact with the children and parents. The parents are taking disciplinary action.
  • An officer performed a funeral escort.
  • Officers were advised of two dogs running loose and tearing up garbage bags in the 100 block of N. Cedar Street. The officers were able to catch the animals and placed them in the Animal Holding Facility. The owner of the dogs later contacted the Jefferson Police Department. Tickcha Magaly Jaimes was cited for two counts of animal at large prohibited.
  • Angela Murphy reported she was assaulted in the parking lot at 777 Wild Rose Lane. Murphy provided an officer with a suspect, and the officer is investigating the event.
  • Paul Subbert said he was transporting his daughter to emergency room  by personal vehicle and did not wish to be stopped by law enforcement.
  • An officer investigated a two-vehicle property-damage accident in the 100 block of E. Vest Street. A 2011 Toyota Prius, owned and operated by Lyle Hadley of Jefferson, struck a parked vehicle in the 100 block of E. Vest Street. The 1999 Oldsmobile 88, owned by Bryanna Hinote of Jefferson, was legally parked. The Hinote vehicle had a reported $5,000 in damages to the left side, and the Hadley vehicle had a reported $3,500 in damages to the front right. Hadley was issued a citation for failure to maintain control.
  • An anonymous caller reported two loose dogs in the 100 block of N. Maple Street that defecated in his yard. An officer could not locate the animals and took no further action because the caller was not cooperative.
  • Morgan Downs reported to officers that her 10-month-old child had a large bruise after being returned by its father. Morgan said the father said he had bitten the child after being bitten by the child. The Iowa Department of Human Services will be investigating with the officer.

April 30, 2017

  • Kurt Meinecke reported loud music coming from a trailer at 701 N. Cedar St. Officers made contact with trailer occupants, and the music was turned down.
  • Officers assisted the Greene County EMS with a medical call at 1000 W. Adams St.
  • Ryan Murphy reported missing construction tools from 205 N. Locust St. An officer is investigating.
  • A traffic stop was performed at State and Locust streets, resulting in Geraldine Augstus of Jefferson being issued a citation for failure to obey a stop sign.
  • Mark Easterday reported a careless driver traveling west into Jefferson on 220th Street. He said the vehicle was “all over the road.” Officers located the vehicle at 777 Wild Rose Lane and spoke to the female driver inside the casino. The officers’ investigation led to the arrest of Robin Kay Pickell, 60, of Luther on two counts of unlawful possession of prescription drug and second-offense OWI. Pickell was also issued a citation for improper use of lanes.
  • An officer investigated a backing accident at 777 Wild Rose Lane. A 2007 Toyota Tundra, owned and operated by Lance Bartley of Harlan, backed into a 2010 Chevrolet Impala, owned and operated by Donna Shady of Gowrie. Both vehicles had a reported $1,000 in damages. No citation was issued as the accident occurred on private property.
  • An investigation into the unlawful passing of a school bus, which began April 25, ended with Amber Robles of Perry being issued a citation for unlawful passing of a school bus.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
