October 21, 2019

  • James Lorenzen reported his neighbor’s dog is defecating on his property at 507 N. Grimmell Road. An officer will speak to the neighbor about the issue.
  • Lynn Gunderson reported a stray dog at 606 Rushview Drive. Gunderson caught the animal in a fenced garden area. The animal was placed in the Jefferson Animal Holding Facility.
  • A traffic stop at Wilson and Clark streets resulted in Matthew Owens of Jefferson being issued a citation for failure  to have a valid driver’s license.

October 22, 2019

  • A caller advised that the state of Iowa flag fell to the ground at 104 W. Washington St. An officer removed the flag from the ground and placed it at the business door.
  • The Greene County Elementary School reported a suspicious vehicle at 401 E. Russell St. An officer tracked down the vehicle and learned it was a federal agent conducting business in the area.
  • An officer investigated a property-damage accident at 101 Ram Drive. A 2001 Chevrolet Silverado, owned by Ray Emmick and operated by Zara Emmick, backed into a legally parked 1999 Acura TL owned by Heather Pollock. Damage to Emmick’s vehicle was estimated at $50, and damage to Pollock’s vehicle was estimated at $150. No citation was issued because the accident occurred on private property.
  • An officer assisted the Greene County Ambulance with a medical call in the 100 block of W. Lincoln Way.
  • Charlie Paniagua reported a possible no-contact order violation at 406 W. Head St. An officer determined a violation had not occurred.
  • A caller reported he could smell burning marijuana as he walked in the 700 block of N. Vine Street. An officer did not detect any illegal odors in the area.
  • Marlene Murphy requested a welfare check on her adult daughter at 108 E. Central St., #66. An officer spoke to the female, who said she was fine.

October 23, 2019

  • Officers assisted an Iowa Department of Corrections probation officer conduct a Home Visit at 108 E. Central St., #66.
  • Brittany Kay Smith, 32, of Jefferson reported a stolen laptop, coins three cell phones from 304 N. Chestnut Street. Smith provided officers with the name of a male suspect. An officer is investigating. During the event, the officers learned Smith had outstanding Greene County arrest warrants for first-offense possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine, first-offense possession of a controlled substance-marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Smith was arrested by the officer for the warrants and transported to the Law Enforcement Center.
  • Chad Ferguson reported the theft of a radio from a vehicle parked at 1106 N. Elm St. The theft had occurred after Oct. 16, when Ferguson last saw the radio in the vehicle. The value of the item was estimated at $200. An officer is investigating.
  • Tom Ganoe reported locating damage to his 2016 Ford Focus after being parked for a few minutes at a retail store at 106 W. Washington St. An officer estimated the damage to the rear bumper of Ganoe’s vehicle at $1000. The officer is working to view video surveillance from the business to identify the other vehicle involved.
  • An officer began a criminal mischief investigation at 1216 Westwood Drive. Words and symbols were spray painted on two apartments at the complex. The investigation is ongoing.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
