
John Norris, a Democratic candidate for the governorship of Iowa, will visit Perry Tuesday, Aug. 22 to introduce himself to voters and share his ideas about the future of the state.
Norris has a long track record in Iowa politics, acting as an aide to former U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin in the 1980s and running Jesse Jackson’s Iowa campaign for the presidency in 1988. He also chaired the Iowa Democratic Party.
Norris was chief of staff to former Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack and also served Vilsack in his position as U.S. secretary of agriculture. His experience also includes seats on the Iowa Utilities Board and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
He returned to Iowa from Washington, D.C., in 2016 and is now a partner at SPPG, a West Des Moines-based public policy consulting firm.
Norris will greet Perry-area voters from 6-7:30 p.m. at La Poste, 1219 Warford St.
