A Johnston man was sentenced Friday to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to a charge of third-degree sexual assault in connection with an incident Feb. 15 in Adel in which he raped an intoxicated minor.

Caden Anthony Dimaio, 18, of 4904 Meadow Circle, Johnston, was arrested March 18, 2019, by officers of the Adel Police Department on charges of first-degree kidnapping, third-degree sexual assault-forcible rape, third-degree kidnapping and assault with intent to commit sexual abuse.

In a plea bargain struck with the Dallas County Attorney’s office in September, Dimaio pleaded guilty to one count of third-degree sexual assault-forcible rape. The other charges in the case were dropped.

According to court records, Dimaio allegedly assaulted the intoxicated victim after confining her “to a locked office” at 611 Court St. in Adel.

Along with the 10-year prison term, Dallas County District Court Judge Terry Rickers imposed court costs, fees and victim-restitution costs on Dimaio and required him to submit a DNA sample to the Iowa Department of Corrections and to register with the Iowa Sex Offenders Registry.

Rickers also issued a five-year no-contact order for the protection of the victim.

In a separate case, Dimaio was arrested Sept. 18, 2018, by officers of the Clive Police Department on a charge of third-degree sexual abuse in connection with an incident in which he allegedly date raped a female in Clive during the 2017 Waukee homecoming weekend.
