A Johnston woman was arrested Thursday night for allegedly driving drunk in Waukee with a minor passenger.

Iye Koroma, 43, of 9585 White Oak Lane, Johnston, was charged with first-offense OWI and child endangerment.

The incident began about 11:30 p.m. Thursday on University Avenue in Waukee, where a patrolling officer of the Waukee Police Department observed a motor vehicle without tail lights that was “reversing at the red light” and then “stopped at the green light,” according to court records.

The officer initiated a traffic stop and the made contact with the driver, Koroma, who presented with bloodshot, watery eyes and “the strong odor of alcohol,” according to court records.

Koroma’s performance on field sobriety tests implied “impaired balance,” according to court records, and a preliminary breath test administered at the scene returned a result of .164.

A minor was discovered “laying in the back of the vehicle, unrestrained,” according to court records.

Koroma allegedly “admitted to drinking and stated that she just left the liquor store,” according to court records.

Koroma is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $2,000 cash or surety bond. She is scheduled for a preliminary hearing May 19 in Dallas County District Court.
