The Perry Kiwanis Club donated its labor power Thursday toward the city’s long-planned improvements to the large shelter house in Pattee Park.
Working in collaboration with the Perry Parks and Recreation Department, the civic Kiwanians are installing new metal siding on the old shelter house, with interior improvements also planned.
“This is one of our ways of giving back to the community,” said Perry Kiwanian Vince Sturm.
Working the Thursday shift along with Sturm were Perry Kiwanis Club President Jeremy Winter and Kiwanian Matt Crooks. The volunteer efforts will continue Friday, weather permitting.
City hands sharing the work Thursday were Perry Parks and Recreation Director John Anderson, Parks Supervisor Kevin Kanealy, Maintenance Director Barry Chayet and Mike Peterson.
“We have had the siding on hand for a while and were trying to find time to install it,” Anderson said. “The Kiwanis Club’s help has made it possible.”
Friday’s work plan includes removing an interior wall in the shelter and replacing it with a beam.
