Half a dozen Knights of Columbus gathered at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Perry Saturday morning to reinstall the tabernacle after its month-long absence for repair and restoration.
Jim Beuter, a parishioner in Perry since 1963, provided the engineering acumen behind the work, with Grand Knight John McGee and his 14-year-old son, Brennan, handy with the tools and manpower.
Fellow Knights Grason Hill, Jon Wilson, Mike Wilson, Brandon Lauer and Tom Fickbohm also lent their strong arms to the effort.
The rack-and-pinion assembly that operates the door of the tabernacle was repaired at a specialty shop in Omaha. The gold plating on the 250-pound box was also refurbished. The work took about one month.
The tabernacle dates from the building of the present St. Patrick Church in 1901.
