
PANORA — A slow start doomed the Panorama boys Tuesday, as visiting Woodward Academy used a 25-11 first quarter to fuel a 51-43 West Central Conference victory.
The Knights (9-10, 9-8) held a 32-20 lead at the intermission, even of a cushion to survive being outscored by four points in the second half. The Panthers (6-15, 6-12) were able to climb to as a close as six points to trail, 44-38, with four minutes remaining in the game but were unable to make up the final margin.
Panorama had posted a 74-66 win in Woodward Jan. 6 but struggled to score in the rematch. Brooke Halterman had 15 points, Jeramy Randol seven and Gracen Welberg two after the trio had scored 20, 17 and 23 points, respectively, in the first meeting.
Luke South had 12 points for the hosts Tuesday, with seven points from Michael Allen completing the Panther scoring.
Ammari Johnson poured in 22 points and Amman Johnson 15 for the Knights. Kashad Hawthorne scored five points, Cortez West four, Carlmain Lottie and Ruben Islas two points apiece and Jay’Quise Norton one.
Panorama will play in the 6:30 p.m. game Monday at South Central Calhoun (Lake City) against familiar for West Central Valley in a Class 2A Substate 7 contest. AC/GC faces host SCC in the second game. The Panorama/WCV winner will play Thursday in the 8 p.m. game against host Kuemper Catholic.
