Travis Landgrebe, newly promoted manager of the Fareway store in Perry, cut the ribbon Thursday morning on his own tenure in the top local management position.

The Perry-Area Chamber of Commerce hosted the morning ceremony, which drew a crowd of about 40 to the popular downtown retail grocery store.

Landgrebe introduced his wife, Anna, and young son, Gavin, who shared in the congratulations. Other members of the Perry management team and their spouses also joined in the celebrations.

“It’s a great day for Perry and for Fareway,” Landgrebe said. “We’re making tremendous improvements here, and this is just one step in a long process.”

Among Landgrebe’s well wishers was a contingent from Fareway’s corporate offices in Boone, including Fareway President Fred Greiner, Chief Economic Officer Reynolds Cramer, Vice Presidents Mike Wassenaar and Jeff Borrill and District Supervisors B. J. Van Der Linder and Nick Greiner.

Fareway opened its first store in Perry in 1946 and built its present location in 1976. The 78-year-old company now has 112 stores in five states.

Landgrebe thanked his Perry management team  as well as Glen Weber, his mentor and the longtime Perry Fareway manager. A retirement party for Weber will be held next Thursday at the Perry Fareway.
