Larry Herron, 87, of Linden passed away Thursday, Sept. 28, 2023, at his home near Linden, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 30 at 10 a.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home and Cremation Care in Perry. Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 29 from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the West Linn Cemetery in rural Linden, Iowa.

Larry Estel Herron was born Aug. 6, 1936, in Linden, Iowa, to Raymond Elsworth and Lillian M. (Mobley) Herron.

He graduated from Linden High School with the class of 1954.

Larry served in the U.S. Air Force from Jan. 3, 1955, to Feb. 27, 1959.

He was united in marriage to Kay Kiser at Richmond, Indiana, on June 1, 1957.

Larry was a mechanic for Salocker Automotive and worked at North Central Public Service, all while farming. He started farming with his dad with a wire planter and horses and ended farming with GPS-guided equipment.

He got his pilot’s license in 1964 flying single-engine visual rules. He took more classes and obtained his multi-engine instrument rating. He took his family on many flights as well fellow farmers to see their fields.

One of his greatest joys was raising cattle.

In death he rejoins his wife, Kay; parents, Raymond and Lillian Herron; daughter, Camilla Sheeder; and an infant daughter, Christine.

Left to cherish Larry’s memory are his children, Cheryl (Scott) Williams of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Cynthia (Andy) Miner of Perry and David Herron of Minburn; grandchildren, T. J. (Christina) Williams, Jonathan (Remmy) Williams, Elizabeth (Matt) Hix, Rebecca Miner, Victoria (Joshua) Shelledy, Amanda (Clint) Funk and Benjamin Sheeder; great-grandchildren, Thomas and Amiya Williams, Adalynn and Wallace Hix and Judson Shelledy; and sisters, Nancy Metz of Spearfish, S.D., and Jean Wrigley of Evergreen, Colorado.

Memorials will be given to the Wounded Warrior Project, and St. Croix Hospice and may be left at the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.carrisfuneralhome.com.
