GUTHRIE CENTER — AC/GC used a strong third quarter to tighten Friday’s WCAC boys basketball contest with visiting Woodward-Granger, but it was the Hawks who had the last word in pulling away for a lopsided win.
W-G (8-2, 6-1) began the game with a 12-4 edge in the first quarter, and entered the half holding a 29-18 advantage. AC/GC (4-6, 2-6) responded with a 19-12 third quarter to trim their deficit to 41-37, but the guests exploded in the final frame, posting a 27-11 burst that created a 68-48 victory.
Keith Braunschweig had 10 points and Noah Hoyt six (both hit two 3-pointers) with Bryce Achenbach scoring seven points to fuel the fourth-quarter eruption that created the large margin on the scoreboard.
Hoyt finished with 18 points (10 in the first half) and Braunschweig 15 (all in the second half) to lead W-G. Kaya Bowlsby and Achenbach had nine points apiece, Nick Buch and Reese Jamison six apiece, with Sam Peterson adding three points and Trevor Simmons two.
Bryce Littler’s 15 points led AC/GC, with Quynton Younker providing nine points and Noah Nelson, Noah Sargent and Will Byars five points apiece. Lucas Marsh accounted for four points and Hunter Pauley for three, with Eli Kading scoring two points.
W-G hosts Panorama Tuesday before visiting Van Meter Friday as WCAC action continues next week.
