
Perry Police Department Officer Laura Deaton was promoted to the rank of detective Thursday, filling a gap in the Perry ranks that opened in February with the departure of Perry Police Det. Sgt. Jerome Hill.
Deaton said she is “looking forward to the opportunities, education and hard work! I want to thank Jerome for taking me under his wing when I first began with the department five years ago and starting me on this journey.”
Hill was among the many friends and present and former coworkers to offers Deation congratulations on her advancement.
“Congratulations, Detective,” Hill said. “You will do great.”
Former Perry Police Department Chief Dan Brickner, who retired in 2014 after 30 years in law enforcement, said, ” Congratulations, Laura! I can’t wait to get a chance to work with you again, Detective!”
Former Perry Police Department Officer Lourdes Clay, who took a position in June with the Des Moines Police Department, said, “Congrats, Laura, or shall I say, Detective Deaton?”
Deaton has served on the Perry force five years.
