Laura Skeel has been named the PCSD’s new principal at the Perry Elementary School.

The Perry Community School District School Board announced Thursday that Laura Skeel will be the district’s new principal at the Perry Elementary School.

Skeel has served for nine years as the director of learning supports within the PCSD administrative team, coordinating with building principals, the curriculum director and the superintendent on district initiatives.

She has also facilitated and managed all special education programs in the district from preschool through 12th grade, including staffing, budgeting and state reporting.

Skeel holds education specialist degrees in K-12 school administration and school psychology from Indiana State University. She previously served as special education director in the Marshall Community Unit School District in Marshall, Illinois.

“It is truly an honor to continue serving the Perry community as the next elementary principal,” Skeel said. “I am excited for and humbled by the opportunity to further contribute to the growth and development of our students. Together, we will continue to build a safe and supportive learning environment where we can create knowledgeable, skilled and productive citizens of character.”

The Perry School Board worked with two search firms, Huxley-based Grundmeyer Leader Services and Cedar Rapids-based Ray and Associates Inc., to conduct the job search. Skeel interviewed in Perry March 19 with several groups, consisting of teachers, parents, staff members and community members.

The school board will formally approve Skeel’s hiring at a March 26 special meeting. She will officially assume leadership at the Perry Elementary School on July 1, 2024, replacing Dr. Ryan Marzen, a PCSD employee since 2017, who has accepted a position with the Waukee Community School District.
