To the editor:
The Board of Directors of the Perry Alano Club and the Friends of the Perry Alano Club would like to thank those involved in our first community fundraising event, which was held at the Alano Club on April 21 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Presented as a soup luncheon and bake sale fundraiser, those attending enjoyed cheesy potato, chicken tortilla, corn chowder, broccoli cheddar, vegan chili and vegan vegetable soups along with homemade breads and a generous display of baked goods.
Now in our eighth year, located at 1211 and 1213 Lucinda St., the Perry Alano Club is a local nonprofit corporation whose mission is to host 12-step recovery meetings and to be a safe place for those in 12-step recovery to come and socialize.
Over the past eight years, we have received funds from the Bock Family Foundation, the Dallas County Foundation and the 100+ People of Perry. The soup luncheon fundraiser was our first opportunity to invite everyone in Perry and the surrounding communities to join with us at the club to celebrate our efforts at fighting back against alcohol and drug addiction in our community.
We are very pleased with the turnout and would like to thank Lou and Lois Hoger for their good services in receiving a grant from Thrivent Financial to underwrite the costs of the event.
Please visit our Perry Alano Club website or our Facebook page for a schedule of 12-step meetings, including Spanish-speaking meetings. Call 805-708 1801 for information on how to contribute through joining our sustaining group, Friends of the Perry Alano Club.
Membership is $60 per year and is a convenient way for those interested and inclined to support us. Thank you.
Kris Corrigan, President
Perry Alano Club Board of Directors.
