U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida was one of 12 House Republicans who voted against H.R. 1085, a bill that arranged for Congressional Gold Medals to be awarded to the U.S. Capitol Police and D.C. Metropolitan Police in recognition of their efforts to protect the Capitol from the attack on Jan. 6, 2021. Joining Gaetz were Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, Louie Gohmert of Texas, Thomas Massie of Kentucky, Andy Biggs of Arizona, Andy Harris of Maryland, Lance Gooden of Texas, Michael Cloud of Texas, Andrew Clyde of Georgia, Greg Steube of Florida, Bob Good of Virginia and John Rose of Tennessee.

To the editor:

Russian leaders believe that Americans hate their government. So they do not hesitate to pass along propaganda that is negative about our institutions to sympathizers in our Congress, including the institution they themselves serve.

Russians might have influenced members of Congress as well as the anarchists who tried to overthrow Congress. Twelve Republican House members did not vote to recognize the bravery of the Capital police during the Jan. 6 insurgence.

If you want to keep our form of government and not become like Russia, vote in 2022 for Congressional candidates with loyalty to the United States and not Russia.
