Linden man sentenced to 25 years for vehicular homicide

A Perry man was killed and two others were injured May 9, 2022, in a two-vehicle crash on Iowa Highway 141 at D Avenue south of Dawson.

A Linden man was sentenced to 25 years in prison Friday in connection with a drunk-driving crash south of Dawson in 2022 that killed Donald Charles Motz Jr. of Perry and seriously injured Donna Weishaar Motz of Perry.

Dallas County District Court Judge Michael Dean Jacobsen sentenced Kristopher Dean Beller, 27, of 28166 A Ave., Linden, to 25 years in prison after Beller pleaded guilty Friday to a charge of homicide by vehicle-OWI.

According to an Iowa State Patrol crash report, Beller was traveling southbound on D Avenue (County Road P46) from Dawson at about 9:15 p.m. Saturday, April 9, 2022, in a 2017 Chevy Silverado pickup when “for an unknown reason” his truck “entered onto Highway 141 and struck” a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse, driven by Motz, who was traveling eastbound on Iowa Highway 141.

Beller was also ordered to pay $150,000 in restitution to the estate of Motz.
