WOODWARD, Iowa — The mystery ended Thursday evening when it was revealed Miss Lindsay Mescher and Mr. Nick Bermel would reign as queen and king over Homecoming 2022 at Woodward-Granger High School.

The pair were each selected from a court of five fellow seniors and were crowned at a coronation ceremony in the varsity gym.

Grace Deputy, Ellie Meier, Maddi Schuler, and Audrey Simmons were on the queen’s court, with Elijah Bell, Landon Bogardus, Dylan McCaulley, and Ethan Moats serving on the king’s court.

Festivities began with the annual parade at 5:30 p.m. A dinner was held 5-7 p.m. at the W-G cafeteria, with all moving to the west gym for the coronation.

W-G (1-2) will open Class 1A District 2 play tonight when they host Eagle Grove (1-2). The Hawks opened their year with a 20-8 win over Madrid, but have since fallen twice on the road, first to AC/GC, 34-30, and last week to Interstate-35, 24-14.

The Eagles were 48-20 victims of host C-G-D before bouncing back for a home win of 30-20 against MVAOCOU. They were stopped short, 13-12, by host West Central Valley last week.

W-G was a 42-0 winner in the meeting between the two teams last autumn. Quarterback Carter Moran threw for three touchdown and ran for the other three, with W-G rushing for 225 yards on 43 carries.

Eagle Grove never came untracked on offense, losing five fumbles and throwing one interception. The Eagles did not complete either of their two passes and gained just 55 yards on 33 rushes.

Kickoff Friday at Hawk Stadium is 7 p.m.
