
URBANDALE — The Woodward-Granger boys basketball team scored 40 points in their game Friday. They trailed by 37 at the half.
Des Moines Christian showed no mercy at all in romping to an 82-40 West Central Conference win over W-G, erupting to a shocking 27-2 lead after eight minutes and widening the gap to 53-16 at the intermission.
The Lions led, 74-28, after three quarters of play en route to the win, which lifted DMC to 2-0 overall and 2-0 in WCC play while W-G fell to 2-1, 0-1.
Bryce Achenbach led the Hawks with 14 points, with Marcus McConahay adding 13 points. Four points form Derick Morgan, three from Cameron Hoyt and two apiece from Brady Aunspach, Brendan Bird and Nick Brummond completed the W-G scoring list.
Achenbach finished with six rebounds, four assists and six steals, with McConahay adding four rebounds.
W-G will play Saydel Monday in a girl/boy set before the Hawk boys face host Woodward Academy Tuesday in the W-G middle school gym. Both W-G teams will then visit Van Meter Friday.
