Lou Hoger of Perry celebrated his 81st birthday Friday in company with his fellow members of the Society of Retired Experts (SORE), a meeting of the male moiety at the Courtyard Cafe coffeehouse.
Sharing sweet rolls and coffee with Hoger were John Andorf, Jim Caufield, Nick Eakins, Ken Finer, Ray Harden, Larry Laborde, Dan Spellman, Don Ruggle and Rich Wede.
Hoger said it has been an eventful year, with an ongoing surge in demand at the Perry Food Pantry following the closure of the slaughterhouse. He said stepping down after six years directing the Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) at Dallas County Hospital has given him more time for substitute pastoring.
Hoger said this year’s celebration is not only his but also his daughter’s and his twin granddaughters’, all of whom celebrate within a few days of one another. A party is planned for Monday.
