Louise Battani, 86, of Red Oak passed away Sunday, July 21, 2024, at the Accura
Healthcare of Stanton, Iowa.

Louise was born June 22, 1938, in Murray, Iowa, the daughter of Everett Wesley Smith and Delores Irene (DeVore) Smith.

She graduated from Murray High School, where she was very involved in all activities, including being majorette and baton twirler, playing basketball and cheerleading.

In 1962 she met the love of her life, Eugene R. Battani of Des Moines. They were united in marriage on March 21, 1963, and a daughter was born to this union, Kristina M. Battani.

Over the years, Louise worked many jobs, including being a nanny and at Katz Drug Store, Miller Wohl and Arnolds credit department in Des Moines. In the 1970s, Louise worked as a resident treatment worker and med aide at the Woodward State Hospital, and in the 1980s for the Grimes State Office Building in Des Moines. In the 1990s, she worked for Casey’s in Woodward.

Louise and Eugene also owned and operated restaurants throughout the years.

Her many years as a stay-at-home mom and housewife were treasured the most.

Her hobbies included cooking, baking and crafting.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Eugene Battani; brothers, Ray Smith and Ronnie Smith; and sisters, Linda Smith and Bette Morris.

Survivors include her daughter, Kristina (John) Battani-Larson of Red Oak; granddaughters, Kaila Larson and Jaide Larson; sisters, Anne (Steve) Smith of Leon, Iowa, Debbie (Dennis) Gibbons of Murray, Iowa, and Robin (Tom) Shannon of Murray.

There will be a private inurnment ceremony at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak is assisting the family with cremation services.
