WOODWARD — Madrid used a thin 21-18 scoring edge in the fourth quarter to slip away from Woodward-Granger, 64-60, in boys WCAC action Friday.
Madrid (13-5, 11-4) ended the first frame with an 11-10 lead, with the teams tied at the intermission, 28-all. The Tigers entered the fourth quarter with a 43-42 advantage before slowly squeaking out the win.
The Tigers survived despite hitting just 2-of-15 3-pointers. The guests were 16-of-24 at the free throw line, with the Hawks 11-of-17 at the stripe and 5-of-15 beyond the arc.
Braden Gibbons had 21 points for Madrid, with Landen Burke scoring 14 points, Devin Fuson 11 and Mason Lobeck 10. Landen Klatt had four points, with baskets from Logan Wicker and Hunter Henry capping the scoring. Fuson pulled down an impressive total of 17 rebounds while making four assists, with Gibbons distributing seven assists.
W-G (9-8, 7-8) received 14 points from both Keith Braunschweig and Noah Hoyt, with Bryce Achenbach contributing 12 points. Seven points from Kaya Bowlsby, six from Reese Jamison, five from Alex Bice and two from J.P. Nixon wrapped the Hawk offense. Hoyt and Achenbach had five rebounds apiece, with Pacey Moats distributing four assists.
