Madrid Police Report Oct. 24-29

Madrid Police Department Reminder: Madrid residents may not blow leaves or lawn clippings into the roadway because the debris plugs up the sanitary sewer system and causes damage. Make sure to clean up any debris from the roadway immediately after the chore is done.

October 24, 2016

  • An officer met with a Madrid female who reported fraudulent use of her debit card.
  • An officer received a call about someone blowing leaves into the street in the 600 block of S. Union Street. The leaves were cleaned up upon officer’s arrival.
  • An officer assisted the Madrid Volunteer Fire Department on a smoke alarm at the Madrid Home. It was determined the smoke was from someone cooking on a stove.
  • An officer took a report of a resident burning leaves in the 200 block of S. Market Street, where the smoke was blowing into a neighbor’s residence. The officer advised the leaf burner.
  • Officer was dispatched to a medical assistance call at the Madrid Home. The patient was transported to the Hospital by Boone Ambulance.
  • Officer unlocked a vehicle for a resident at Medicap Pharmacy.

October 25, 2016

  • An officer assisted with teaching a safety class to the Madrid High School and Madrid Middle School student body.
  • An officer assisted Kaeding’s with a welfare check on a property in the 200 block of E. Third Street.
  • An officer stopped a vehicle in the 300 block of W. First Street. The driver was warned for improper rear lamps and given directions to the parking area of the Trestle Trail Bridge.

October 26, 2016

  • An officer was called regarding an open door on North Market Street. The officer checked the door and found no damage. The officer was able to secure the door.
  • An officer received a complaint from the Flat Tire Lounge regarding illegal dumping. The officer called the subject and warned them about the infraction.
  • An officer spoke to someone regarding a possible intoxicated driver travelling north towards Luther. The officer advised the Boone County Sheriff’s office of the information.
  • An officer stopped a vehicle in the 300 block of S. Main Street. The driver was warned for failure to dim headlamps.
  • An officer received a call regarding a Madrid resident who did not report to work, and the worker’s employer was unable to make contact with the subject. The employer requested a welfare check be done. The officer stopped by the residence in question, and it was determined the subject was away for the day and returned home shortly after. Everything checked okay.

October 27, 2016

  • An officer performed a vehicle unlock.
  • An officer was told a pop machine in a local business was open. The officer contacted the owner to have the machine secured.
  • An officer spoke to a Madrid resident about debris in his front yard on S. Union Street.

October 28, 2016

  • An officer was called to the 800 Block of S. State Street for a knife found in the roadway. The officer picked up the item, and it can be claimed at the Madrid Police Department.
  • An officer answered questions from a Madrid resident about a newly purchased, out-of-state vehicle and how to go about bringing it up to Iowa legal standards.
  • An officer received a call from a resident who lives just south of the city limits regarding a skunk problem. The officer was on a call and could not respond but gave the owner permission to dispatch the animal in the live trap due to it being a nuisance and possibly sick.

October 29, 2016

  • An officer responded to a building alarm in the 100 block of W. First Street. It was discovered to be a false alarm, and the building was secure.
  • An officer received a complaint of a motorist driving erratically through town. The officer followed the vehicle in question through town and did not see any driving infractions.
  • An officer assisted Madrid Rescue with a medical call on the bike trail near QF Lane.
  • An officer picked up a found dog. The animal is a very large black dog with no collar. The officer turned the dog over to the humane society.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
