September 16, 2019

  • An officer spoke to a Madrid resident on Washington Street about his neighbor’s dogs barking at night and on weekends. The officer will make contact with the owners of the dogs and try to assist the neighbor gain some peace and quiet.
  • An officer spoke to a Madrid resident about her ex-boyfriend stealing from several different retail stores in the past month. The officer will pass on the info to the other agencies for them to follow up because the ex-boyfriend does not live in town and committed no crime in Madrid.
  • An officer fingerprinted a Madrid resident for a job-related background check at a local child care service.
  • An officer received a complaint from the school bus transportation director about some kids playing too close to the bus stop Friday. The officer spoke to the Madrid Elementary School staff and the three kids involved and gave them a safety advisory.
  • An officer assisted Madrid Fire/Rescue with an emergency medical call in the 700 block of E. Second Street.
  • An officer spoke to a Madrid resident about a civil stand by for this upcoming weekend. Due to the property in question being outside the city limits, the officer gave the resident the number to the Boone County Sheriff’s office.
  • An officer followed up on a theft from the Madrid Laundromat that occurred Sept. 1. The officer charged a Madrid juvenile with fifth-degree theft after interviewing several juveniles and watching the surveillance video of the crime in progress.

September 17, 2019

  • An officer was dispatched to the 900 block of State Street for a fire alarm. The alarm was false.
  • An officer returned a call to a county resident regarding the ATV ordinance in the city and questions on the most direct routes.
  • An officer was called to a vehicle unlock at a retail store.
  • An officer responded to a noise complaint and civil complaint in the 200 block of S. State Street.

September 18, 2019

  • An officer assisted Madrid Fire/Rescue with an emergency medical call at the Madrid Home.
  • An officer assisted Madrid Fire/Rescue on a medical call in the 100 block of N. State Street.
  • An officer met with school staff and went over the Emergency Operations Plan.
  • An officer assisted a Madrid landlord with background checks on four potential tenants.
  • An officer spoke to a Madrid resident after receiving a request from a landlord to have some tall weeks cut that were affecting his tenants. The resident cleaned up the property immediately.
  • An officer responded to an incomplete 911 call at the Cedars. Everything checked out okay. The facility was having problems with their phone system.
  • An officer responded to the 300 block of N. Water Street for a welfare check on a juvenile. The juvenile was home safe and sound.

September 19, 2019

  • An officer received a call from a staff member at the Polk County Attorney’s office who requested information on a stolen motorcycle that they recovered and a suspect who was charged. The officer forwarded the information.
  • An officer was dispatched to a retail store for an accident in the parking lot.  A SUV pulling a camper trailer, driven by Gary Todd of Waukee, was pulling through the parking lot and struck a parked car, causing minor damage. The officer did an exchange of information for both owners.
  • An officer spoke to a Madrid resident about a civil issue dealing with a tree-cutting company.
  • An officer was dispatched to a welfare check in the 300 block of Grisby Court after someone locked himself out of his residence. Everything checked out okay.
  • A Madrid resident turned in a lost dog that was found running by the U.S. Post Office. An officer located the owner of the dog when she came to the Madrid City Hall. The officer assisted the resident in licensing the animal so it could be identified if it gets away again.

September 20, 2019

  • An officer spoke to a school bus driver who reported two vehicles driving through his stop sign while he was taking kids home after school. Both vehicles were caught on bus video, and the driver was able to get a license plate on a vehicle described as a light blue Volkswagen Beetle.
  • An officer spoke to a Madrid resident about items stolen from his residence.
  • An officer assisted a Madrid resident at the laundromat with an equipment issue.
  • An officer spoke to a Madrid resident in the 800 block of E. First Street about stray cats in the neighborhood that were from the County Line Road Trailer Park. The officer told the resident he would contact the Humane Society and check on options and also informed the resident of the spay-neuter program that was going to be started in Madrid, with that area being the first contact area.
  • An officer assisted Madrid Fire/Rescue on a medical call in the 300 block of N. Locust Street.
  • An officer performed a funeral escort.
  • An officer met with a Madrid juvenile and his father and issued him a citation from a previous case. The officer sent the information to Juvenile Court Services.
  • An officer returned a phone call to a Madrid resident about a suspicious item that the resident found.
  • An officer assisted Madrid Fire/Rescue on a medical call at a retail store.
  • An officer worked the home football game and then assisted with traffic control afterward.
  • An officer assisted Madrid Fire with a smoke alarm on Peterson Parkway. The alarm was false.
  • An officer responded to the VFW regarding a property dispute. The officer assisted in agreement, retrieval and return of the items. During the argument, many parties on both sides of the disturbance made threats, but ultimately everything was settled without violence, and no one was charged criminally.

September 21, 2019

  • An officer responded to Jonathon Drive regarding a person seen wearing a clown outfit and carrying a bat. The officer spoke with witnesses and neighbors and determined that the person was a boy walking around the neighborhood with a goofy wig and without nefarious intent.
  • Officers attempted to locate a reckless driver, but the caller was confused as to location, sending responding units to the opposite end of town. When officers received an updated location, the reckless driver was already well out of the city limits.
  • An officer responded to a two-vehicle, property-damage accident at the corner of 21st Street and Kennedy Avenue. A vehicle entering a retail store parking lot from Kennedy Avenue turned too wide and side-swiped a vehicle stopped at the stop sign.  There was minor damage to both vehicles. The officer assisted with information exchange at the scene.

September 22, 2019

  • An officer responded to a trailer at Meadow Estates to assist medical personnel with a woman in labor.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
