A Des Moines man was arrested Monday on a Dallas County warrant in connection with incidents occurring between 2009 and 2011 in which he allegedly repeatedly sexually assaulted a child.
George Diaz Avila, 52, of 5185 N.W. Torgerson Dr., Des Moines, was charged with second-degree sexual abuse-child under 12.
According to court records, the victim “was 12 years of age” when Avila “first sexually assaulted her,” and she endured “an unknown number of sexual assaults” between “the age of 12 to 14” at the family’s Urbandale residence.
A warrant for Avila’s arrest was ordered Aug. 22 in Dallas County District Court and served Monday. Avila is held in the Dallas County Jail in advance of an initial appearance in Dallas County District Court.
*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
