Margaret E. “Margie” Butler, 80, of rural Wonewoc, Wisconsin, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2023, at her home.

Margie was born on Aug. 11, 1943, at the Peoples Hospital in Independence, Iowa, the daughter of Eugene and Erma (Ross) Smith.

She graduated from Oelwein High School with the class of 1961.

Margie was united in marriage to Wayne Klug on June 2, 1963. To this union came two children, Shelley and Tim.

They made their home in rural Bouton, where Margie babysat from her home for 10 years.  In 1979 she started working for Hy-Vee in Perry. She also worked for the Johnston, East Euclid and Flyer Stores, where she eventually retired.

Margie later married Richard “Dick” Butler in Nashua, Iowa, at the Little Brown Church on Nov. 9, 2002.

This Iowa girl moved to Wonewoc in order to make a life. Early on in their marriage, she bottle fed calves, helped guard gates and round up the cattle to bring them home, and the cattle’s getting out could be a daily thing.

Margie also worked 4.5 years at Viking Foods in Reedsburg and always making sure that Dick had a meal on the table after a long day choring.

Margie loved photos, taking pictures and making sure that there were plenty of them hanging on the walls and in the photo albums.

She also enjoyed crocheting, puzzles and mowing the lawn in her healthier years.

Left to cherish Margie’s memory are her husband, Dick, the love of her life; children, Shelley (Steve) Palmer of Granger, Tim (Marsha) Klug of Des Moines, Lori (Joe Ott) Dunse of Reedsburg and Dave (Marci) Butler of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Sharaya and Savanna Palmer; step-grandchildren, Tiffany and Sean Belieu, Aaron Conrad, Victoria (Mathew) Stabnow, Alyssa Dunse and Mike, Ayhla, Pandora, Skyler, Uriel, Adeline, Logan and Morgan Butler; step-great grandchildren, Atlas Butler and Viktor, Natalia and Lucas Stabnow; brothers, Vern (Julie) Smith and Dwight (Charyl Lynn) Smith; sisters-in-law, Virginia Mitchell, Diana Smith and Elaine Butler; a very special friend, Patsy Manny; and many, many nieces and nephews.
