The Bluejay Way sculpture project was developed by the Perry High School Student Activities Department Advisory Council in 2014 as a way of identifying the core values that define what it means to be a Perry Bluejay.

Students in the Perry Community School District are encouraged to live The Bluejay Way as words become values, and values become works.

  • Act with Character.
  • Commit to Excellence in Academics and Activities.
  • Outwork Our Competitors by Striving to Improve Every Day.
  • Be the Best Version of Ourselves, Serving Others and Displaying Good Sportsmanship.
  • Dream Big.

The accompanying Bluejay mascot logo was also a Student Activities Department Advisory Council student-driven concept. The project included the design, creation, painting and installation of the three Bluejay sculptures, located at Perry High School, Perry Middle School and Perry Elementary School.

“Thousands of students and staff have attended the Perry schools,” said Perry School Foundation member Tom Lipovac, “and this project serves as a tribute to all students and staff who have walked the halls of Perry Community Schools and who have lived the Bluejay Way.”

The Bluejay Way project connects with generations of community members and alumni through the recognition of Perry students and staff, Lipovac said. He said the project is consistent with artistic exhibits and the cultural emphasis in Perry, where “Culture and Community Thrive Here,” and “Perry Pride Thrives Here.”

The sculptures were funded by the Perry School Foundation, the Homer Perkins Estate, the Akkerman-Snowgren Trust, the Blanche and Millard White Foundation, the Bock Family Foundation and 100+ People For Perry.
