Shelbie Jade Ingram, 32, of Mason City was arrested Sunday on charges of first-offense possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine, second-offense possession of a controlled substance-marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, interference with official acts, failure to obey stop sign and yield right of way and fugitive from justice.

A Mason City woman was arrested in Van Meter Sunday after a brief tussle with law enforcement.

Shelbie Jade Ingram, 32, of 713 S. Carolina Ave., Mason City, was charged was first-offense possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine, second-offense possession of a controlled substance-marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, interference with official acts, failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way and fugitive from justice.

The incident began about noon Sunday in the 300 block of Elm Street in Van Meter, where an officer of the Van Meter Police Department allegedly observed a vehicle fail to obey a stop sign.

A traffic stop was initiated, and the officer determined that the driver, Ingram, “had an active warrant out of Nebraska,” according to court records.

The officer directed Ingram to exit the vehicle, but instead Ingram allegedly “resisted and tried to put the car in drive,” according to court records. The officer “was able to prevent the female from driving off” and then “took the keys out of the vehicle.”

A second Van Meter Police Department Officer arrived on scene, and together the officers “removed her from the vehicle,” according to court records. In the course of the struggle, one officer was allegedly “kicked,” and the other officer’s “body cam had been disabled.”

Ingram allegedly told the officers “that she was trying to kill herself and had a knife,” and the officers “took her to the jail due to her emotional state,” according to court records.

A search of the vehicle disclosed 1 gram of methamphetamine, 4 grams of marijuana, a “necklace drug storage device” and several other items of paraphernalia, according to court records.

Ingram is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $7,000 cash or surety bond. She is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Jan. 13 in Dallas County District Court.
