Eddie Mauro, Democratic candidate for Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District, will attend a meet-and-greet event in Perry Thursday, Jan. 11 at 5:30 p.m. at Perry Public Library.
The public is invited to attend the event, sponsored by the Perry-Area Democrats, and learn about Mauro’s ideas and share their own thoughts and concerns. Mauro is seeking to oust two-term Republican Rep. David Young.
A spokesperson for the Perry-Area Democrats described Mauro as “a business owner, father, coach” who “serves as a community advocate and volunteer at local, state and federal levels.”
Mauro, a former teacher and coach at Dowling and North high schools in Des Moines, is the founder of UIG, a wholesale insurance firm serving insurance agencies in Iowa and across the U.S. The Des Moines native and his wife, Sharilyn, have been married 25 years and have two children, Dominic and Mia.
Mauro was also a founding member of A Mid-Iowa Organizing Strategy (AMOS), a non-profit group composed of religious leaders and church groups thatĀ helps unemployed or underemployed participants get training and certification for jobs with local employers. The “iron rule” of AMOS, according to the group’s website, is “Never do for others what they can do for themselves.”
Mauro lost a June 2016 primary election challenge to 41st Iowa Legislative District incumbent Jo Oldson (D-Des Moines).
