Michael Murphy, 31, of Van Meter passed away on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2023, at his home in Van Meter, Iowa.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, Dec. 27 at 5 p.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church at 1026 N. Eighth St. in Winterset. Visitation will be prior to the service from 4-5 p.m.
Michael John Murphy was born Jan. 23, 1992, in Allentown, Pennsylvania, to James Edward Murphy III and Mary Kathryn (Keel) Murphy.
He graduated from Winterset High School with the class of 2010.
Michael worked at Chipotle, Noodles and Co. and Dick’s Sporting Goods.
He enjoyed sports and online gaming.
Left to cherish Michael’s memory are his parents, James Murphy III and Mary Murphy; siblings, Jillian (Brandon) Nuziale, and Jay (Stacey Konkle) Murphy; grandmother, Marguerite Murphy; and numerous aunts; uncles; and cousins.

Dear Jim and Mary, I cannot begin to imagine how it must feel to lose your son at such a young age. I can only hope that you get through these day because you are surrounded by all the people who loved him and you guys so much. You are such great people all of you. I’ve only spent short time with you all and am so happy that you guys have welcomed Brandon into your family with so much love.
