Michael Scott Hoffman, 55, of Des Moines passed away May 1, 2025.

Born Nov. 3, 1969, in Jefferson, Iowa, Scott was the son of Michael Hoffman and Ronda Onken.

He grew up in the communities of Rippey and Perry and attended Perry High School.

Scott moved to Des Moines as an adult, where he built a life centered around creativity, connection and an appreciation for the finer things.

A true entrepreneur at heart, he pursued his passion for food by owning and operating the Brown Bag Deli and Catering for several years. His gourmet cooking and warm hospitality earned him loyal customers and lasting friendships.

Scott had a deep love for dogs and shared a special bond with every pup that came into his life.

He was known for hosting gatherings for his friends, where he could often be found in the kitchen, happily preparing meals and sharing laughter.

A devoted music lover, Scott had a particular fondness for Elton John, whose songs were often the soundtrack to his life.

He will be remembered for his free spirit, refined taste and love of cooking.

Scott is survived by his mother, Ronda Onken; siblings, Angela (Brett) Wuebker, Dennis (Terra) Onken, Sandy (Scott) Koenen and Jeremy (Sarah) Hoffman; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Hoffman; brothers, Ryan Hoffman and Damion Louk: and step-father, Lee Onken.

Burial will occur at a later date.
