Two veteran members of the Dallas County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) — Director Mike Thomason of Perry and Paramedic Lee Coons of Perry — were celebrated and thanked for their career achievements at a retirement reception Thursday afternoon at La Poste in Perry.

Coons is retiring after 27 years with the ambulance crew, and Thomason is stepping down from the department’s leadership role after 25 years.

Many of their fellow public safety agents joined with friends, family and well wishers in honoring the long-serving medical men, who were presented with commemorative plaques in recognition of their long service to the residents of Dallas County.

Paramedic Kristin Brady will serve as the county’s interim EMS director. Brady has been a crew leader in the department since 2018.

“Kristin will be excellent in the director’s role,” Thomason said amusingly, “even better than our current director.”
