An Italian manufacturer of farm machinery will soon be operating in the Perry Industrial Park and employing about 35 people, according to plans announced Friday by the city of Perry and the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA).

ADR Axles USA Inc., an affiliate of ADR S.p.A, headquartered in Milan, Italy, makes axles, braking systems and suspensions for agricultural and industrial companies, such as John Deere, Massey Ferguson, Case New Holland, Kinze Manufacturing and Bazooka Farmstar.

The Perry plant will be their North American headquarters, with a 54,000-square-foot footprint for fabrication and assembly, the announcement said.

The $14.3 million project is expected to create 35 jobs, of which 12 will meet or exceed the IEDA’s High Quality Job Program laborshed wage of $31.10 per hour. The IEDA board awarded the company $300,000 in sales and use tax rebates, and the city of Perry will provide 10 years of tax-increment financing at a cost of about $800,000.

Perry City Administrator Sven Peterson said ADR Axles has been working with Perry Economic Development Inc. to buy about 11 acres in the Perry Industrial Park along L Avenue just south of ITC.

“This is certainly some good news for Perry that we have been in need of,” Peterson said.  “A huge shoutout to Rachel (Wacker) with the (Greater Dallas County Development) Alliance for helping with this process as well as IEDA and the Greater Des Moines Partnership for fostering the relationship with ADR and showing them Perry. Also kudos to Perry Economic Development for their work on the Industrial Park and making the land purchase deal to solidify the opportunity.”

The Perry City Council is expected to approve the deal at Monday’s meeting. The city will work with the Iowa Department of Transportation on infrastructure improvements to L Avenue in order to facilitate ADR’s operations.
