Minburn Communications lands $5 million in broadband grants

DES MOINES, Iowa — Minburn Communications will receive more than $5 million in state funding to expand its high-speed internet network, the Iowa office of the Chief Information Officer announced Tuesday.

The Woodward-based telecom was one of 160 companies to share in more than $210 million in funding for new broadband infrastructure through the Empower Rural Iowa Broadband Grants Program.

Minburn Communications was awarded three grants in the latest funding cycle:

  • Adel-Dallas Center North Rural Broadband Expansion $1,807,968.10
  • Perry Rural Broadband Expansion $3,010,538.45
  • South Adel Rural Broadband Expansion $874,400.00

The Adel-Dallas Center North and Perry Rural expansions also received funding in September 2021.

The Minburn Mutual Telephone Co. was founded Jan. 3, 1903, by local businessmen and farmers in and around Minburn. Bouton and Woodward were included in the Minburn directory in 1957. For more than 100 years, the company has kept pace with advancing technology and with the evolving communications needs of their customers.
