Construction is proceeding briskly at the Raccoon River Pet Rescue, with the framing complete at the building’s 5.59-acre site along Ivy Place on Iowa Highway 141 in Perry.
The facility’s groundbreaking took place in May, and construction is expected to be completed by November.
The Raccoon River Pet Rescue was incorporated in 2018 as a non-profit corporation and will partner with the city of Perry to care for strays and manage their adoption if the animals are not claimed by their owners within seven days.
City employees at the Perry Water Pollution Control Facility have managed the Perry Animal Holding Facility since the dissolution of the Humane Society of Perry in July 2018. Adoption arrangements will continue between the city of Perry and AHeinz57 Pet Rescue and Transport in De Soto until construction of the new pet rescue facility is completed.
