Mustangs eager to make mark at state soccer

GRIMES — DC-G enters the 2A state soccer tournament at the second-seed and, after a 16-3 season, the Mustangs believe a state title is within reach.

DC-G (16-3) faces Waverly-Shell Rock (13-6) at 3 p.m. Tuesday on Field 8 at Cownie Park in Des Moines. The victor advances to Thursday’s semifinals on Field 6 at 2:40 p.m. with Bondurant-Farrar (16-3) and Sergeant Bluff-Luton (16-3) on the other portion of the bottom half of the bracket.

Top-seeded Xavier (12-5) faces Marion (12-6) and Pella (15-4) plays ADM (14-4) in the other quarterfinal matches. The championship match will be held of Field 9 June 5 at 2:30 p.m.

Junior Kendall Bickford leads a potent offense with 21 goals and six assists, with senior Eli Followell adding 16 goals and nine assists. Junior Jacob Ewers (15-4) and senior Jacob Adams (12-8) are also featured in the attack.

Junior Austin Meggers has spent roughly three-quarters of the minutes in goal and has made 46 saves. Fellow junior Max Reitano has 31 goals during his time between the pipes.

DC-G has outscored their opponents by a combing 74-16 this spring.
