About 25 rat rodders and others took the four-hour e-RAT-icate Cancer Cruise Iowa Saturday, starting in Polk City and passing through Granger, Perry, Luther, Slater and Sheldahl. The Perry Oil Co. stop was the tour's planned photo opportunity.

Some two dozen hot rods and classic cars made a pit stop Saturday morning at the Perry Oil Co. at 1223 Willis Ave. in the e-RAT-icate Cancer Cruise Iowa circuit.

The four-hour tour started in Polk City and passed through Granger, Perry, Luther, Slater and Sheldahl. The Perry Oil Co. stop was the tour’s planned photo opportunity, with the newly restored and Sinclair-themed station makig an ideal set for the American classic cars. A lunch stop was planned at Whatcha Smokin? in Luther.

The e-RAT-icate Cancer Cruise Nationwide is an event put on by the eRaticate Car Cruise, a public non-profit charity (a 501c3).

According to the group’s website, a tight-knit family of Midwestern rat rodders founded the charity in 2014 when three of the friends lost their fathers to various types of cancer and a fourth’s father was diagnosed with cancer. The extremely close timing of these events seemed to the friends some sort of calling and inspired them to start planning their area’s first rat rod benefit cruise.

Cory Dunn of Altoona orgainzed the e-RAT-icate Cancer Cruise Iowa tour. He was met for pictures at the Perry Oil Co. by his wife, Shelly Dunn, his parents, Mike and Rhonda Dunn of Ankeny, and some 25 other Iowa rat rodders but also including a few shiners, motorcycles and even a couple daily drivers, all of them ready to join the cause against cancer.
